Huipil ceremonial
Quetzaltenango, Quetzaltenango

This ceremonial huipil is crafted from three handwoven canvases, created on a foot loom. The central canvas features a distinct design that differentiates it from the sides.

The huipil’s unique texture and corrugated appearance result from variations in weft thread thickness and a loose weaving style. The weft threads appear to be a blend of fibers.

The round neck is decorated with a hand-embroidered application in satin stitch, making up flowers and animal figures.

According to the locals, this style of huipil had its peak during a brief period, making it a rare and historically significant garment within the Ixchel Museum collection.
