Over-huipil
Santa María de Jesús, Sacatepéquez

Linguistic Community: Kaqchikel

The garment is made with three cloth panels, all of which have a white background with red, vertical warp lines. The central panel and parts of the lateral ones stand out for their supplementary-weft brocades, which include birds, animals, and geometrical designs. It features a rosette made of pink ribbon and a neckline finished with the same material. There is a row of two-headed eagles below the rosette. This cerermonial over-huipil is worn by women of the cofradias or catholic brotherhoods, as well as by young Maya women who are elected as representatives of their community.
