Ceremonial Attire.
The huipil is woven on a backstrap loom using single-ply yarn, employing a technique known as pikb’I (an open-weave technique) which gives it a translucent appearance.
Throughout the single panel, white supplementary weft brocades are visible.
Among the brocade figures, a bird sits atop a corn plant, these motifs are notable for being part of an ancient legend, X Balam Q’ué, The Sun Bird.
The corte (skirt), which is full and flared, was woven on a treadle loom using cotton threads. The bottom edge features a border with marbled designs. It is fastened at the waist with a two-tone cotton cord.
Today, the pleats are ironed to maintain their sharpness.
